Plain sailing for Browne Jacobson as team completes canal timeshare and marina disposal

22 October 2008Nick Mackenzie, Solicitor

Corporate lawyers at Browne Jacobson have advised the sellers on the sale of Blackwater Meadow Marina to ABC Leisure Group.

The deal also involves the acquisition and management of a number of hire and shared ownership narrow boats located at Blackwater Meadow Marina and two other marinas owned by a consortium including Staffordshire Boats, Canaltime Management, HF Limited and Tillerman Boats.

Blackwater Meadow is a relatively new marina situated in Ellesmere, Shropshire, in a rural location, with almost 100 moorings along with the usual associated services. It is located on the busy Llangollen Canal - the most popular holiday cruising waterway in Britain.

The team from Browne Jacobson was led by Corporate Partner Joanne Bligh and Solicitor Nick Mackenzie.

Dick Holly of Staffordshire Boats said:

“This is a highly complicated business which the Browne Jacobson corporate team, supported by tax partner Andrew Noble, were quick to comprehend. We were delighted by the experience and dedication of the lawyers who delivered the service in a highly professional, structured and coordinated manner.”

Corporate lawyer Nick Mackenzie added:

“This was a multi-faceted deal involving a number of key stakeholders. It was a good deal for the vendors who had built up a solid business over the years and for the new owners who see it as an important strategic acquisition.”

ABC Leisure Group was advised by Shoosmiths.
