The environmental unit includes niche specialists from water
pollution to nature conservation and countryside law and one of its
key strengths is advising clients on relationships with regulators
such as the Environment Agency. The team includes several solicitor
advocates, so if clients are ever faced with court proceedings, it
can act on civil and criminal proceedings from the outset through
to trial advocacy.
In 2003, the Legal 500 acknowledged that "Browne Jacobson boasts
easily the highest level of expertise in environment issues in the
region" and the team’s expertise extends to active involvement in
legislation and policy formulation both at a domestic and EU
level.
Partner, Richard Barlow, has been involved in the publication of
the Second Edition of "A Manual of Nature Conservation Law" which
is a valuable collection of European, Primary and Secondary
National Legislation together with statutory annotations covering
the whole of wildlife law in England and Wales.
